Final Blog

I was in Lefty's Right Hand, it was about Lefty Rosenthal
I feel that this class has gone beyond what I expected it to be. When I first started the class I thought that we would be typing a bunch of nonsense into word and get through the class in no time, but we actually did a lot more work than I expected. We not only used programs I was familiar with, we used programs that I had only ever heard about or seen in passing, so this will help my future experiences a lot.

Also the work load for the class itself was way more than I, or even most of the class, expected. While it seemed at first this would be a disadvantage because I believed that it would interfere with what I thought were more “important” classes, it actually in the long run will help me out later on in my school life and my career. It will help me be ready for the more advanced classes that will be coming along in my future.

The grade I expect from this class is at least an A-, if not an A.

At first I was having some problems getting my account to work, but once I had the first part done I was able to get the account done and go shoot this quick video. As you can see I called it “Quick bs for the class” because I’m not that entertaining on camera, and I had to have something, so this is what you get. I was able to get this video up in a short time, and realizing that if I could get a video uploaded onto the net so fast, no wonder people are getting and acting stupider all the time, because they just have the option to put themselves and others out there at times when it wouldn’t normally be the best for them to be seen.

Comp viruses

My experience with computer viruses has not been extensive at all. Sure I have run into some of them, but most have been killed by my antivirus software. Some have made it by the software, but with a little bit of attention I was able to catch them and have the software isolate and destroy them. I have helped people whose computer has contracted a virus; some were so severely damaged by them that we had to do a complete system restart. That is why I try and keep my computer clean, and I think everyone else needs to learn how to do that also. All it takes is a little bit of diligence on the users part and they should be able to combat viruses that come along and keep their computers clean.

Picasa

I learned some interesting things about uploading images, like the fact that some programs require a lot of work to get working. Especially with the Picasa, there was a lot of fine-tuning that had to be done just to upload the files, but once it got working once, everything seemed to run smoothly after that. Also once I had gone through the process once, I was able to help other people set up their slide shows with ease. The only problem that I ran into that was technical was the fact that the servers are only running on one IP address, and Goggle was thinking that it was being spammed by the one IP, so it slowed down the computers.

Twitter, Its stupid.

I think twitter will stay with us as an internet community for a long while, though its popularity may die down. There will be a resolute group that will keep using it, but most people will stop after awhile, mainly because the celebs they are following will get bored with twitter. The celebs are the main reasons that twitter all the sudden became so popular, people got interested in what their favorite actors or musicians were doing, or supposedly doing. Some celebs were just posting random stuff on twitter to get a good laugh, like Ashton Cutchner. There really is no point to twitter for the mass public, its just the prissy celebs saying they went to Starbucks to get a flavored coffee. Now for other things a similar application might be useful for companies, like film makers.

Challenges

The challenges of the course have not been many, but the ones that have cropped up were hard. The main challenge for me has been trying to unlearn what I thought I knew about computers. I have discovered first hand that it is bad to not keep updated about current technology. Technology has advanced so much in just under a year that I barley knew how to use Microsoft Office when I turned on the computer. The basic knowledge I had about computers over the years has helped me not totally crash and burn, but I feel like I have just been on the edge of falling into the failing category. The operation on a computer I barley know, a Mac, has not helped me, but I feel like I can learn how to use one if I try hard enough.

Garage Band EOC week 3

I like to listen to all types of music, no matter the style. From classical all the way to heavy metal, as long as it has a good rhythm and beat. I enjoy a little bit of rap or hip-hop as long as it is not gangster or criminal in nature. I do enjoy more of the Heavy Metal type of music, it actually calms me down so I can do more work. With the power of Garage Band, on the Mac, I would have great power over the type of music I could create, and the program would be a major help to me because I am a game designer and freelance audio creator. With its power I can compose music for every different scenario in my games, and create different sound compositions for any of my audio projects. Also if I wanted to create any music for friends or myself the power of basically having an entire orchestra at hand will be very helpful. Also with Garage Band I can even try to create music that can compare with works made by the great composers. I believe even the most non music person can use the program and create works that would pass on the retail market.

I just made a snapshot of my desktop.

Week 2 EOC (Fears of the Internet)

The thing that scares me the most about the way the Internet is today is not being anonymous, just losing that sense of being able to surf without anyone knowing who you are. Now I know that this also presents security problems for all web users, i.e. the scare ware that has been floating around the Internet and causing people untold problems, and also the Conficker worm that surfaced on April fools day. These “hackers” are some of the best programmers that exist in the world, although some are not “programmers” per say, but they do have enough knowledge to cause problems for a lot of people. The only thing that makes me feel any better about these web pirates is the fact that some of the security experts that are hired by anti-virus companies are the also some of the best on this side of the law, and try and fight these problems the best they can.

The other side of this problem is the fact that the government can track the criminals, but they can also track the people who are not doing anything, just people who they feel are worth watching for no other reason than they don’t like them. Now don’t take that for some radical senseless rambling, I am just putting out possibilities that could happen.

What it all comes down to is whether people want to be more secure or do they want more freedom. It always has to balance out, and sometimes it goes to far to one side of the scale than the other, and we get the problems we have now with the Internet, and other things in life. Ask yourself that question, do you want to have more security or do you want to have more freedom?

My voice

Phoenix Phell Productions is a game production company. Although we produce all types of games, we mainly specialize in the Action Adventure and RPG genres. I am the company CEO, and I am also the founder of it. I started company wanting to bring the games me and my employees like to create to the consumer base so they could have new games that could be enjoyed. I personally like to play games that do not seemed rushed because a company thought that a product that gets out sooner is going to make more money, than a product that is the best that the group of people who made it could create. So I hope I instill the same belief in employees and consumers alike. I also believe that a good work environment helps create happier employees, which will translate to better work from employees which, in the end, will create better product. We try to promote the best working environment possible so we can have the best product possible. In the end a better product will translate into better profits for a company, but more with a game company, or any production company, a better product means more satisfied employees, who will make greater product, and that means even more satisfied customers.
